Welcome to TopMod!
Whether you're a QA tester preparing for your first testing session, a developer investigating an issue, or a lead managing quality across your projects, we're glad to have you here.
TopMod is the Game Quality Engine, designed to help game development teams capture better evidence, investigate issues, streamline bug reporting, and make more informed decisions about game quality.
If you're new to the platform, this guide introduces the basics, explains how everything fits together, and points you towards the resources you need to get started.
First, What Is TopMod?
Game testing involves much more than finding bugs.
There's gameplay to record, evidence to collect, issues to document, developers to communicate with, and projects to coordinate. Often, that work is spread across multiple tools, making it harder to keep information connected.
TopMod brings these activities together in one platform.
Rather than treating gameplay recordings, bug reports, testing activity, and quality data as separate pieces of information, TopMod connects them so your team can spend less time managing the testing process and more time improving the game.
At the heart of the platform are five connected components: Capture, Evidence, Checkpoint, Intel, and Command.
Meet the TopMod Systems
Each part of TopMod has a specific purpose, but they're designed to work together throughout the testing and development process.
Capture: Record What Matters
Capture is TopMod's native Windows application, built specifically for game testing.
It records gameplay alongside supporting technical information, including player inputs, performance metrics, and game logs.
Instead of manually collecting screenshots, recordings, and diagnostic information from different applications, Capture helps keep everything together.
Getting started: Download and install the Capture app, sign in with your TopMod account, and start capturing your testing sessions.
Evidence: Understand What Happened
Evidence is where your team's captured gameplay and supporting information come together.
Browse testing sessions, review recordings and screenshots, examine supporting data, and compare footage using Split Views.
Whether you're investigating a reported issue or reviewing a testing session, Evidence gives you the context needed to understand what happened.
Getting started: Open Evidence and explore the Session List or Content Library to see what your team has captured.
Checkpoint: Turn Findings into Action
Finding an issue is only the beginning. It still needs to be documented, reviewed, and communicated clearly.
Checkpoint manages that process.
Create bug reports, organise them into backlogs, review findings, and prepare issues for developer hand-off.
Where enabled, TopMod's AI-assisted tools can also help generate bug reports from captured clips and review reports for missing information.
Getting started: Explore your workspace's backlogs or use Quick Actions to create your first bug report.
Intel: Understand the Bigger Picture
Individual bugs tell you what's happening in one part of a game. Understanding quality across an entire project requires a broader view.
Intel helps teams identify trends and changes across their testing data.
Through reports and Signals, you can explore quality information and highlight emerging concerns, such as increases in regressions or unusual concentrations of issues.
Getting started: Visit Intel to explore the available reports and Signals for your workspace.
Command: Keep Testing Organised
Quality assurance also requires coordination.
Command brings together the operational side of testing, helping teams manage projects, schedules, staffing, and equipment.
Whether you're leading a testing team or checking your upcoming assignments, Command helps everyone understand what they're working on and when.
Getting started: Explore Project Management and the Team Calendar to see how your team's testing work is organised.
How Everything Works Together
The real value of TopMod comes from connecting these different activities.
Imagine you're testing a new game build and encounter an unexpected crash.
You use Capture to record the session, collecting gameplay and supporting technical information.
That recording becomes available in Evidence, where you can review what happened and examine the information surrounding the crash.
From there, you create a bug report in Checkpoint, attaching the relevant evidence and preparing the issue for review and developer hand-off.
As more testing takes place, Intel helps your team identify whether similar problems are appearing elsewhere or whether broader quality trends are emerging.
Meanwhile, Command helps your team coordinate the people, projects, and testing activities behind the work.
Five connected components, supporting one continuous quality process.
And because TopMod is designed to complement existing development tools, teams can continue using integrations such as Jira to manage their development workflows.
Finding Your Way Around TopMod
When you first sign in, you'll enter one of your organisation's workspaces.
TopMod is organised into three levels:
- Organisation: Your company's TopMod account, containing its members and workspaces.
- Workspace: A dedicated area for a team, studio, or group of testing activities, with its own evidence, backlogs, and settings.
- Project: A specific piece of testing work, managed through Command.
The navigation menu gives you access to your workspace Home, the different Systems, shared Resources, and your account settings.
Your Home page provides an overview of relevant activity, tasks, and team information, with the content tailored to your Team Role.
You'll also find an Inbox for notifications and updates, plus Quick Actions to help you perform common tasks without navigating through multiple pages.
What you can see and manage depends on your permissions and the workspaces you've been invited to join.

Your First Steps in TopMod
You don't need to learn everything on your first day. We recommend starting with a few simple actions:
- Set up your account. Accept your invitation, complete your profile, and check your notification preferences.
- Explore your workspace. Familiarise yourself with Home, the navigation menu, and the Systems available to you.
- Install Capture. If you'll be recording gameplay, download the native application and prepare your testing environment.
- Review some evidence. Browse existing sessions and see how gameplay recordings and technical information are presented.
- Explore your team's workflow. Look at your Checkpoint backlogs and Command projects to understand how your team manages testing.
Depending on your role, some of these steps may be more relevant than others. A developer reviewing issues might spend most of their time in Evidence and Checkpoint, while a QA lead may regularly work across all five components.
The important thing is to start with the parts of TopMod that support your day-to-day work.
